(A contest entry to
's Glen Peeps Contest!)
weight: 290 lbs
occupation: Woodcutter; former wood carver
specie: Ammotragus lervia Faunus (Barbary Sheep Faun)
personality: brash and quiet; he rather let his actions do the talking and would only talk to those he's close with. Loves to reminisce when not working and is very appreciative of other people. Due to the harsh history he had involving his missing arm and petrified wound, he's very sensitive when people stares at him, but despite his huge presence, he's more likely to shy away than hurt people. (Though that doesn't mean he hadn't hurt anyone before...)
Barnabas was once a faun with a passion to create wood carvings which he sells to visiting travelers or those who he meets along the way when he is with his cart. He was also once in-love with a dryad whom he frequently visits in the forest near the kingdom but a fateful day when a basilisk somehow found its way out in the surface world had his lover devoured by the creature after she was turned into stone, and nearly got petrified himself if it wasn't for the dumb luck of keeping one eye closed which renders a basilisk's petrifying glare to work only halfway.
With his the left side of his body nearly petrified and his arm crumbled into rocks, Barnabas limps away after partially blinding the accursed creature back with his axe. Wounded and nearly dying, he was found by his fellow fauns and brought back into their kingdom to be healed.
Little is heard of what became of the basilisk, though it was made clear that the Coal Cave kingdom
was actually hunting the creature down after it broke out of its own habitat; Barnabas finds himself sullen and bitter of what became of him and his love. Even after a willing Gourdian from the Autumn Realm
gave him a automaton arm to give his mobility back, Barnabas gave up his craft and settled doing heavy work in building houses.
Though, at times, Barnabas finds himself struggling to bring back his passion for his woodworks, seeing it as his last and only reminder of his love.
(note: the black scars he have are petrified muscles. He nearly had his left leg petrified, so he has a leg brace to hold it together.)
((i tried not to make it sappy, but I drew his design with a metal arm for some reason and wanted to give this guy a good story to why he has the auto-mail in the first place. I also tried to tie in my other OCs to his history to give some closure to herbie's account.))
